Sleek Steel & Engraved

Karlsson Charm Series Wall Clocks

The Charm series is Karlsson's most versatile range. Sleek steel cases, engraved markers, and slim brass or gold hands — a clock that works almost anywhere.

Elegant Karlsson Charm series steel round wall clock with gold hands on a pale taupe wall

The Charm series is our most-recommended Karlsson range, and if you're new to the brand it's the one to start with. Charm clocks pair a sleek pressed-steel case with a clean face — usually cream, white or ivory — and a pair of slim hands finished in brushed brass, rose gold or matte black. The design language sits somewhere between classic office clock and contemporary minimalism, and the result is a clock that's at home in almost any interior.

What sets Charm apart is the engraved numeral detail. Instead of printed Arabic or Roman numerals, the Charm dial uses subtle engraved markers — sometimes the full numerals, sometimes just minimalist dots. The depth of the engraving catches light in a way that printed markers never quite do. At close range it feels like a proper timepiece; at distance it reads as soft, balanced dots.

The four Charm finishes below cover polished silver, brushed nickel, dark bronze and small-scale champagne. Each pairs differently with a room; we've noted which we'd recommend for which setting.

Why Charm is the all-rounder

The Charm case is roughly 5 cm deep, 30-40 cm in diameter, and under 3 kg in weight. That's a universally manageable size — big enough to be seen, small enough to hang on plasterboard with a single fixing, and light enough to sit flat without visible bracket. The proportions are the Goldilocks choice for most UK homes: not overwhelming in a small room, not lost on a feature wall.

Matching Charm to your interior

The finish choice matters more than the shape. Silver Charm reads formal and traditional; it's our pick for a study, dining room or anywhere with deep wood furniture. Brushed nickel with rose-gold hands reads softer and works in bedrooms and living rooms with linen or boucle. Dark bronze suits moodier schemes — deep greens, charcoals, leather. Champagne is the gentlest; perfect for a hallway or a small guest bedroom.

The second hand

Most Charm models use a silent-sweep movement. A few older editions (typically the silver and bronze) still ship with a stepped second hand that ticks audibly. Confirm with the retailer before buying if you're installing the clock in a bedroom. For a list of our favourite silent models, see the silent range page.

Hanging Charm clocks correctly

Charm clocks use a keyhole slot on the back — just a single fixing. Use a 6 mm plasterboard plug or a masonry screw; the Charm is light enough that neither needs a bracket. Centre the clock 145-155 cm from the floor in most rooms; above a mantel, aim for the clock's centre to sit about 20 cm above the mantel surface. That gives enough space for a candle or a small object beneath it without crowding.

Charm variations worth knowing

The standard Charm is round, but Karlsson has also released square Charm variants and a Charm XL version in 50-60 cm. The square versions are harder to find but worth hunting for if you have a grid-heavy interior. Pair Charm with our gold accent range for a layered look.

Buyer Questions

Quick Answers Before You Buy

The questions UK buyers most often ask us about this range.

Why is the Charm series so popular?

Because it refuses to commit to one interior style. The Charm's slim steel case, flat face and restrained hands sit comfortably in Victorian terraces, new-builds, converted warehouses and coastal cottages alike. It's the Karlsson model most frequently chosen as a gift — exactly because it reliably suits the recipient's home.

How large is a Charm clock?

The main Charm sizes are around 30 cm and 40 cm — the everyday-room zone. Smaller Charms suit kitchens and home offices; larger ones work above a sofa or in a hallway. The range doesn't do oversized statement pieces; for that, see the large range.

Are Charm clocks silent?

The majority of current Charm models use silent-sweep movements. A handful of specialist editions tick audibly. Check the listing for your specific model. Silent-sweep Charms suit bedrooms and offices; standard Charms are best for kitchens and hallways.

What finish is the Charm case?

Brushed or matte-painted steel, depending on colour. The brushed finish has a faint directional grain and catches light softly; the matte-painted finishes (white, black, sage) are dead flat. Both age well — neither has exposed corners that chip easily.

Start with the Charm

If you only ever buy one Karlsson clock, make it a Charm. It suits more rooms than any other range.
